I have a confession…I am so obsessed with my blanket scarf that I actually had to come up with more ways to wear it in order to feel better about it.  Hopefully some of you share this addiction and I want you to know that we will get through this together!  One of the easiest ways to get away with wearing something way too much is to change up how you style it.  The blanket scarf can be worn a number of different ways, but my personal favorite is the cape!

Here’s how to do it:

Step 1: Lay your scarf flat on the floor.  It should look like a large square when spread out.

Step 2: Fold a corner of your blanket so that it is touching the corner that is directly diagonal to it.  Now your scarf should look like a triangle.

Step 3: Wrap the triangle around your shoulders so that it drapes down near the front of your legs.

Step 4: Using a belt, finish the look by securing the cape at your waist.

That’s it!  I hope you love wearing it like this as much as I do! (:

There are so many ways to wear a blanket scarf, but I think my new favorite is with this little black dress!  This outfit is so easy to throw together and looks instantly chic for day or night wear.  When it gets chilly you can also add a red or beige coat!  How do you wear your blanket scarf?

I don’t know about you, but I am so guilty of impulse buying clothes, especially during the fall.  Sometimes it’s hard to resist the trends, even when you know they can only be worn for a short time before it gets cold (front button skirt I’m looking at you!).  That being said, you want a closet full of clothes that will carry you from season to season, not just pieces that are ideal for a few weeks at a time.  That’s why it’s so important to make sure that you are stocked with the essentials.  Four pieces that I can’t go without are a vest, a gingham or plaid button up shirt, a floppy hat, and some ankle booties.  Not only can you mix and match these items in a countless number of ways during the fall and winter, but they can also be worn year after year without going out of style.

TIP: To get the most out of your closet, try to purchasing as many of these pieces as you can in a neutral color so that they go with everything.  You’ll never have that, “I have nothing to wear!” moment again.  What are your fall essentials?

Side note: I’m totally loving the vampy lips for fall.  Revlon “Black Cherry” was the perfect color to match this burgundy hat!  This lipstick is normally glossy so I dusted some translucent powder over it to create the matte effect that I love.

When it comes to pattern mixing, I’m no expert.  In fact, I usually like to play it on the safe side because let’s face it, it’s easier to throw on something that you already know goes together perfectly.  That being said, I think some of the best outfits come from taking a risk.  It’s exciting when you find things that shouldn’t work, but do.  My best advice for pattern mixing is to stick with one color as the main focus of the outfit, and let the other less noticeable colors compliment it.  For this outfit, my dominant color was blue and I used red and white as accents.

On another note: I hope everyone is enjoying the fall!  Some things that I love about fall are: Pumpkin Spice Lattes, colorful leaves, Netflix (okay, that one is year round), warm cookies, tall boots, big sweaters, candles everywhere, pumpkins, and Halloween.  What are your favorite fall things? (:

I had been waiting to go apple picking with Craig for weeks, but both the weather and time really just weren’t on our side for most of September.  As the month came to a close, one day we finally decided to forget the forecast (rain) and go for it.  As it turns out, it was a beautiful day and we had so much fun picking out a pumpkin, playing with the animals, and of course visiting our favorite farm store to get apple cider doughnuts.  I hope you are all doing some fun fall things this October too and thanks for reading! (:
