Confession: I’ve really never met a pair of ripped jeans that I didn’t like.  Frayed denim is fun and eye-catching, and with the right pairings, can take any blah outfit from ordinary to exciting.  That’s why I’ve rounded up a few of the best style tips for wearing distressed denim.  There are no set in stone rules ever when it comes to fashion, but this is how I personally like to wear them and I hope that it gives you some ideas.  Get ready to get the most out of your not-so-basic jeans!

Tip #1: Add some contrast.

Soften the ruggedness with some feminine pieces.  In this particular look I chose to wear my pointed heels to give it that girly touch.

Tip #2: Wear a non-flowy top.

Distressed denim tends to have a slouchy look so I usually like to wear a tight top with it.  I find this makes the look appear more put together.  This one I’m wearing is actually just an inexpensive thermal from Old Navy.  They are SO cheap, look great with everything and are really warm in the winter.

Tip #3: Layer on more textures.

In this case I chose to add my faux shearling vest.  Layering different types of fabric to an already textured look gives it that instant glam factor (and is perfect for the fall and winter months).

Tip #4: Accessorize.

For even more glam add some sparkly accessories.  In this look my accessories were very minimal with simple rhinestone studs and a crossbody bag, but adding a statement necklace or some other bold pieces would really take it to the next level!

Tip #5: Don’t forget a bright lipstick!

I love to further accessorize with makeup.  Wearing a fun lipstick can add color where you are lacking (such as in this look where everything was very muted).  It’s often understandable that you don’t want to go color crazy with already crazy looking jeans (although sometimes I do).  A lipstick is a great way to add color without going overboard.

I’ve linked a whole bunch of really inexpensive distressed boyfriend jeans similar to the ones I’m wearing below like this one and this one so grab a pair for yourself!

What are your favorite style tips for distressed jeans?

There is definitely something to be said about having a few key pieces in your wardrobe that you will keep forever.  This suede skirt is one of them for me.  I bought it a few months ago on Etsy from a little vintage shop and I am so in love.  I first saw the look on Emma Watson and I thought it was so pretty and different.  I went crazy looking all over the internet for the perfect one, which is why I’ve rounded up tons of options for you guys.  It looks really cute in the fall and works as a winter transition piece too since it’s so long and can be worn with booties.  Using a turtleneck top and blanket scarf I piled on the layers to keep this look cold weather friendly.

Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend!  I’m so excited about today’s post because it marks the start of a new series here on the blog.  I don’t know about you guys, but I have always been obsessed with “Get the Look” and “Look for Less” posts.  I think they are so much fun and a great way to recreate emerging trends and celebrity looks when you don’t have a lot of $ to spend.  I truly believe that you don’t have to wear expensive things to look/be fashionable and I think these kind of posts are proof of that.  Not only so, but I think trying a different look out can be so inspiring and really helps to push you out of your comfort zone.  I want this series to be something a little different for you guys and that’s why I don’t want to limit it to just trends and celebrity looks.  If you like a character’s look from a particular t.v. show, movie, music video, really anything you can think of I would love to hear your ideas!  🙂

Now on to this particular look – When I saw this picture of Zendaya wearing denim on denim, I instantly fell in love.  It’s so effortlessly chic and takes me back to Britney Spears circa 2001 in the best kind of way.  What I really like about this style is that it almost looks like the top and bottom are one piece like a jumpsuit.  Add some black accessories and a red lip and you’re good to go!  As I was mentioned before, you don’t have to break the bank to recreate this look.  This top was $15 at Forever 21!

Happy Monday everyone!!  This vest is one of my absolute favorite things in my closet and I’m about to let you guys in on a secret.  It’s actually from the kids section at Target!  As it turns out an XL fits perfectly.  I highly recommend if you normally shop the petite section, to explore some of the great finds that are meant for the 15 and under.

Let me start this post by saying that I LOVE getting dressed up for Halloween.  The hair, the makeup, the endless outfit choices – it’s so much fun to completely change up your look for a night.  That being said, sometimes you need a Halloween costume that is simple enough to wear to a Halloween office party or  the bar with friends for casual drinks.  Cue this super basic, but adorable cat outfit.  This pullover has a wear-anywhere type of situation going on.  I’m basically going to live in it.  I added some cut-out leggings to give it a little something extra and threw on a pair of cat ears.  Wha-la – effortless costume. What’s even better?  Pair the top and bottom with other pieces and you can wear them all year long.
